Where We've Been and Where We're Going:

The May 2025 tornado took 5,000 trees from our neighborhoods. By May 2027, all 5,000 trees lost to the tornado will be replanted: 2,300 new street trees and 2,700 new park trees. This is just the start of an effort to bring back the shade across North St. Louis!

Street Tree Planting: Nov 2026 to May 2027.

  1. What you will get: New trees planted between the sidewalk and street.
  2. Where we will plant: Densely populated blocks will be prioritized to maximize shade.
  3. Who will plant: City of STL Forestry will plant trees at no cost to residents.
  4. Who will maintain: City of STL Forestry will water and care for trees for the first 2 years.

Ways to Engage with this Tree Planting Effort

View the 2026-2027 Street Tree Planting Map

The below map shows the blocks scheduled for tree planting before May 16, 2027. Click your block to see how many trees it will receive. Blocks not included in this round will be prioritized in future planting phases.

Request a Street Tree for Your Home

Is your block not included in this round of street tree planting? You can request a tree in front of your home using the form below or by calling 314-622-4800.

Opt-Out of your Street Tree

If you do not want a tree planted in the easement (the grass strip between the sidewalk and the street) in front of your home, click below to opt out. You can also opt out by calling 314-613-7200.

We're starting small for bigger results

The street trees we plant will start small but will gain height quickly! Smaller trees require less watering, live longer, and allow for many more trees to be planted across our city.

Trees that are specifically good for your neighborhood

In order for the trees to thrive once planted in your neighborhood, we selected tree species that are mostly native to Missouri. To identify a tree on your block and learn more about what makes them uniquely beneficial, use a free app like PlantNet or iNaturalist and see if it matches the below list of species that will be planted.

Trees are more than pretty

Research shows that a mature tree will increase home resale values by approximately $8,000, will have kept 9,000 gallons of water out of the sewer, and cool the sidewalk by 14 degrees!

Tree Species that will be planted:

Bald Cypress | Blackgum | Bur Oak | Hackberry | Kentucky Coffee Tree | Quaking Aspen | Red Maple | Redbud | Scarlet Oak | Shingle Oak | Shumard Oak | Southern Red Oak | Sycamore | Tulip Tree | White Fringetree | Yellowood
